🌴 Phoenix roebelenii 🌴Zones 9-11. Happiest in full sun to part shade. A Dwarf palm tree that typically grows to be approximately 10′-12′ tall with a 6′-8′ spread. It is a slow grower so it takes quite some time to get to this point, but once established they are hardy moderately drought tolerant palms. PDP’s are single trunk palms but are often grown together as multi-trunk specimens. The trunks are made up of old leaf scars giving the palm a unique look. They are topped with long, bright green pinnate leafs with feather like leaflets. The leaflets turn into 2-4 inch spines as you get closer to the base of the leaf. Avoid planting PDP’s anywhere they could potentially be brushed up against. Pygmy dates give an instant tropical effect, plant PDP’s as in a container or as a small accent palm with a ground cover or small shrub around them to create focal points in your landscape!
